Nexus Owner Name Search - A guide

πŸ’‘ Motivation

Empowers you to find the right properties faster and more accurately by enabling direct searches using owner names β€” even when only partial information is available. This reduces search time, improves user satisfaction, and builds trust in the platform by making property lookups easier, smarter, and more precise.

πŸ“Œ Overview

As part of the Nexus New Search experience, we are excited to introduce a dedicated Owner tab, designed to facilitate more focused and accurate searches based on property ownership. By isolating owner lookups from other search functions, this feature minimizes irrelevant results and enhances the overall precision of search outcomes.

Within the Owner tab, users can enter either partial or full owner names, prompting the system to provide intelligent, real-time suggestions that prioritize relevance. These suggestions include exact matches, closely related matches, and partial or fuzzy matches.

When a user selects a suggestion, they are directed to a List View that displays all properties associated with that owner, offering immediate and organized context. Additionally, the system records recent owner searches, making it easy for users to revisit their past inquiries.

❗This feature marks the initial phase of the wider New Search rollout, establishing a foundation for a more modular, intuitive, and flexible search system throughout the Nexus platform.❗

Please note that the previous Universal Search tab has been renamed to All Categories and will remain accessible during the rollout of new tabs such as Owner and Address. This ensures that users can continue to perform broad property searches while we progressively implement more targeted and purpose-built search experiences.

βš™οΈ How It Works

Owner Tab Selection

  • Users select the Owner tab in the new Search component β€” designed specifically for owner-based lookups.

Live Suggestions as You Type

  • As users begin typing part or all of an owner’s name, a live autocomplete dropdown appears.

  • The results returned from the backend are ranked based on:

    • How many letters are the same between the search term and result

  • We've further refined this by reordering results in the frontend based on:

    • How many exact words from the search term match the result

  • Ranking logic:

    1. Exact word matches first

    2. Closest and most relevant matches based on partial letter/word match

    3. Fuzzy matches (e.g., similar spellings or incomplete input)

  • The dropdown:

    • Displays the first 20 results initially

    • Supports infinite scroll, loading additional results as users scroll down

Contextual Info in Suggestions

  • Each autocomplete result includes:

    • Owner’s main address

    • Number of properties linked to that owner, if more than 1.

List View Results

  • When a user selects a result from the suggestions:

    • If the owner has more than one property, the user is taken to the List View, showing all associated properties in a clear, consolidated format

    • If the owner has only one property, the user is taken directly to the Property Summary page

Recent Searches

  • Recent owner search terms are tracked and scoped specifically to the Owner tab β€” they do not overlap with searches from other tabs like All Categories.

  • This allows users to quickly revisit and manage previous owner-based queries.

  • The Owner tab displays up to 10 recent owner searches in the Owner tab's recent search list.

⭐ Why It Matters

  • πŸ” Reduces search time β€” Ideal when users only have partial owner information

  • 🎯 Improves accuracy β€” Surfaces most relevant and exact matches first

  • πŸ“‹ Enhances visibility β€” Consolidates all related properties for multi-property owners

  • ⚑ Delivers a smooth UX β€” Fast, intelligent search flow

  • 🀝 Builds platform trust β€” Handles real-world, nuanced search needs with ease

πŸš€ Rollout Notes

  • The Universal Search tab has been renamed to All Categories

  • All Categories will remain available during the rollout of new tabs like Owner and Address

  • Feature flags control visibility for each tab to support progressive rollout

  • This approach ensures users can continue to use a familiar search method while new, focused experiences are introduced safely and gradually
